about

One night I was out having dinner in a nice little restaurant--looking for some peace and quiet. I didn't know there was to be live music. Halfway through the meal, John, whom I had met and played music with at the home of our mutual friend Gary Larson, came in carrying his guitar and introduced me to Ruthie Dornfeld. They started to play a lot of the music they later recorded for this CD. WOW! I'd never heard anything like it. I didn't know where the tunes came from, sounded old but new. Lots of stuff in there--couldn't quite place it. Ruthie sounded incredible. Beautiful, simple, complicated. Later I found out that John had written most of the music. This was really inspiring. I should go out more often.

Since then, I've had a chance to hear John and Ruthie a few more times. This music is rich and deep. There's a lot in there. I'm very happy now to have the CD so I can come back to it as often as I like.

Sincerely,
Bill Frisell

about

John Miller Bellingham, Washington

I made my first recordings at the age of 21, a solo Country Blues album "First Degree Blues" and one with Bluegrass trailblazers Country Cooking. I released four more solo albums before I turned thirty. After a long lay-off, started recording again in the '90s with instrumental duos, duos where I backed singers, solo recording and larger ensembles. You'll be able to find it all here. ... more
